These are special programmes and workshops at Simei Care centre (a
project of SACS) meant for the training and
equipping of our clients with the necessary skills and preparing them for re-entry into the
workforce.

1. Transitional Employment Program
TEP is designed to prepare our clients for re-entry into the
work-force. This is done by working out with employers to provide
temporary work for our clients. The clients are carefully assessed
for their suitability before being selected for placement. Every
effort is made to ensure that the participants are able to function
well in their jobs.
2. Certificate of Office Skills (SCC)
SACS is the first voluntary welfare organization to achieve the
status of an approved ITE training centre for the Certificate in
Office Skills (COS) course. The first batch of students started in
September, 1999.
It is hoped that this will be one avenue whereby our clients can
learn and be developed to their fullest potential.
3. On-the-Job Training (OJT)
Program
SACS is also a certified OJT centre by the Institute of Technical
Education. Our clients are put through various OJT training modules
for administrative, cleaning, gardening or cafeteria services by our
rehabilitation staff who are trained as OJT instructors.
4. Creative Art Workshops (SCC)
We have
dedicated volunteers who come to conduct art lesson. The clients are
given art lessons and learn to express themselves through their
drawings. It is an effective form of therapy, by itself.
5. Self-Help Group
Members of
a self-help group, will gather for a meal on occassional basis.
After dinner, they would spend some time interacting, sharing and
going through some materials which explore the issues of recovery
from psychiatric disability.
6. Latchkey Service (SGP)
While the
parents go out to work, St. George's Place provide a latchkey
service for the children within the centre. The children are placed
in the care of trained teachers who supervise their learning and
play. Volunteer tuition teachers also help school-going students
with their schoolwork. Special programmes are organized for the
children during the school holidays.
7. Thrift Shop
Named
'Something Old Something New', this is a clothes and crafts thrift
shop located at St. George's Place. It was set up with the help
volunteers with two objectives in mind. Firstly, to provide jobs and
training for clients and secondly to help raise funds for the
operating costs of the crisis shelter. Since then another thrift
shop had also been set up at the Simei Care Centre.
Clients are
trained to sew crafts like perfume sachets, tissue holders, cushion
covers and wine covers for sale in the shops. Other items for sale
include donations-in-kind from the general public.
Please contact us for any of the following matters:
