The St. Georges Place (SGP) caters to families in crisis, single
mothers, battered wives and their children. The services we provide
are as follows:
Residential Care
Housing is
available for up to 50 persons. Accommodation with bedrooms which
are available for single women, mothers and families and, where
appropriate, husbands and wives.
Counseling and Family Therapy
We
recognize that the root causes of our residents' problems are
complex, and need specialist help. Our staff are trained to provide
counseling and family therapy to mothers, fathers and children
alike.
Latchkey Service
For residents who are working, we provide day-care for their children, and this latchkey service is available to the local community as well.
Job Placements
In line with our aim to rehabilitate and re-integrate our residents into society, we provide job placements and career guidance to the unemployed mothers in our care who are able to work.
Duration of Care
The average
period of stay for our residents is normally from 3-6 months.
However, further extension is possible upon approval by the
Admissions.
Charges
SGP is one
of the care centres of Singapore Anglican Community Services, which is
in turn dependent on private donations as well as government
subvention. Residents of the centre who are working are requested to
contribute towards the cost of accommodation according to their
ability to pay. The maximum charge is $300 per month, but partial
waiver is possible on a case-by- case basis. The latchkey service is
free for children of residents, but is charged at $10 - $15 per day
depending on the earnings of the parents for children from the local
community. Eligibility
Our aim is
to help anyone with this kind of need. Nevertheless, in order to
remain focus on the needs we are equipped to deal with, the
following are not eligible for admission to this Centre. Those who
are:
- Incapable of helping themselves
- Addicted to drugs or alcohol
- Suffering from infectious diseases
- Suffering
from Psychiatric illness
- Violent or
suicidal
- Over 60 years
of age
